Katherine C. Kory-Obermyer

January 21, 1925 — March 1, 2015

Katherine Obermyer was born January 21, 1925 to Joseph and Mary Martin in Indiana. The family moved to Toledo where Kathy graduated from Scott High School. She met Leonard Kory while working as a riveter at Jeep during WWII. They were married, had five children and lived in Toledo and Sylvania Township until Leonard’s death in 1981. Len and Kathy owned a prominent medical supply business, General Medical Supply, for 23 years. They spent their free time on their boat and at MRYC, and were known for their skill on the dance floor. In 1975 they purchased a vacation home in Sarasota, Florida where they spent part of every year. In Sarasota their mutual affinity for outdoor activities continued and they spent many hours boating, crabbing, fishing, and in Kathy’s case, sunbathing. In 1988 Kathy married Donald Obermyer, whom she had met through a mutual friend. Don and Kathy moved to Bradenton, Florida and loved to spend time with friends, golf and dance. After Don’s death in 2000, Kathy continued to live in Bradenton. She had a wide circle of friends and loved to entertain, play cards, shop and travel. She moved back to Ohio in 2011 to be close to her family. Her faithful sidekick, her Yorkie, Callie, made the adjustment to cold weather with her and the pair were a popular attraction at the Woodlands, where Kathy lived. Kathy was well-known for her talent in the kitchen and her freezer was always stocked with cookies for visitors, especially her many great-grandchildren. At the Woodlands, Kathy’s love for a full social life continued and she was involved in many activities. She was especially proud of her Wii Bowling championship and loved to play her grandchildren to show off her skill. There is no doubt that Kathy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She loved to spend time with them and even kept up with their daily lives through her Facebook. Her strength during life’s challenging times, particularly her recent illness, is both an inspiration and a comfort. As always, taking care of others was her first priority. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, five sisters and a granddaughter, Tacie Kory. She is survived by her children, Gary (Sharon), Leonard (Janice), Dennis, Kevin (Amy) and Lisa (Eric) Fackelman; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and Donalds family including his children, Linda (Jerry) Bushong, Sharron (Jim) Pellek, Gary (Rebecca) and Jeff (Sharry) Obermyer; 8 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of memorial services at 11:00 a.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Interment will be private. Memorials are suggested to the Toledo Area Humane Society, 1920 Indian Wood Cir, Maumee, OH 43537.
