Katherine Alice Koffman (Katie), 32, of Washington, DC, formerly of Sylvania, OH, died March 9, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Center 6 months following a diagnosis of glioblastoma. Katie was born February 4, 1992, to Ann and Boyd (Reau) Koffman in Detroit, Michigan.
After graduating Sylvania Northview High School, she completed a bachelor’s degree at Miami University, and master’s degrees at North Carolina State University (Anthropology) and the University of North Carolina (Urban Planning). She most recently worked at the Federal Emergency Management Agency through AECOM.
Katie exuded joy, kindness, a dry wit, and a love of bringing friends together for concerts, meals, political marches, or just to hang out. Katie wove her friend groups together which expanded throughout the country. She was so gifted in arranging social events she was awarded the UNC Department of City and Regional Planning "Weiss Best Colleague" award in graduate school. Katie loved traveling, hiking, and exploring Washington, DC. She immensely enjoyed her friendships in the community and at work. Her friends in turn provided much appreciated support for Katie and her family during her illness while in Washington, DC and Sylvania, OH.
Throughout this journey, Katie leaned on her beloved sisters (first best friends) to make her laugh and groan with their "tumor humor." At times in life, they were competitors but always each other’s fiercest defenders. As the eldest sister, Katie was immensely proud of her sisters. In retrospect, her life feels as brief as a shooting star, and her family will miss her kindness, unfailing politeness, positivity, patience, and love.
Katie is survived by her adoring sisters, Erin and Jillian; proud and loving parents, Ann and Reau Koffman; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her dog, Juno. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents (James and Mary Hurley) and paternal grandparents (Boyd and JoAnn Koffman).
Friends and family will gather on Saturday, March 23, 2024, beginning at 10 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623, until the time of Celebration of Life at 12 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
