Katherine Anna Guenther

July 17, 1944 — August 25, 2007

Our little bubble Katherine Anna Guenther, 63, of Sylvania Township, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 25, 2007, at home in the loving arms of her family in her bedroom, which she adored. Kathy was born July 17, 1944, to Dr. Dean and Jane Nywall in Tampa, Florida but it was in Slayton, MN where she grew into the talented, perky and extremely giving person we all love. Kathy graduated from Colorado Womens College in 1966 with a BA in English Lit. Soon after graduation, she began an exciting career as a TWA stewardess - charming everyone she met and spreading laughter around the globe. Kathy met Dennis, the love of her life, on a blind date in Kansas City. He fell victim to the Sweedish Trap at the familys lakeside cabin in Minnesota where he proposed. They were married on April 4, 1970. He never had a chance. They spent 37 beautiful years together, laughing every day, loving each other, and raising their two children, Erik and Kelly. Kathy spent everyday living up to her personal goal of being the best wife, mother and friend she could be. She was a positive force who lit up any room she entered. She took the time to make us all feel special, and left a lasting impression on people she had just met, as well as her closest friends. Kathy and Dennys large circle of friends, developed over 36 years in Sylvania, meant the world to her. Whether at house parties, road trips, tailgates, vacations, or golf outings, Kathy was often the last to leave and was known for her Bud Light in a bubble glass on ice. One of her passions was golfing with her girlfriends at SCC, and golf vacations with Denny to warm getaway destinations in the winter. She will always be remembered for her Kathyisms. Anything technical became a doot-n-doot, if not working it was woppy-jobbered, while lifes challenges were little adventures, or just teensy-weensy problems. And who could forget her signature sing-song Helloooo!. Kathy was a volunteer at Flower Hospital, member of Christ Child Society, Epworth Methodist, the Junior League, SBC3 and a charter member of B & B. For 2 1/2 years Kathy put her big girl panties on and battled Mr. Icky, aka lung cancer her way. Golfing through chemotherapy and radiation-never once missing a tee time or stylishly outfitting her walker Trigger with pink tennis balls. Most importantly Kathy put others at ease, showing us all her positive spirit and a strength many never knew she had. A very big thank you to all of Kathys Angels, the doctors, nurses and caregivers who were with her every step of the way. While facing the fight of her life, she felt compelled to help fellow cancer survivors. Kathy volunteered at the Victory Center and co-founded the first lung cancer support group in Toledo. Kathy is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis; her two children, Erik Lori and Kelly Sharelle; her sister, Sonja and brother, Soren as well as countless friends who will miss her dearly but whose lives are all richer for having known her. Friends are invited to a visitation at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on 2-9 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial service will be held at Epworth Methodist 11 a.m. Thursday. Those wishing to make memorial donations in Kathys name are asked to consider The Victory Center of Toledo, or The Christ Child Society.
