Katherine A. Kitty Clement, 92, of Sylvania Twp., passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at her residence with her family at her side. Born in Toledo to Louis and Ethel McKisson Mennel, Kitty enjoyed an amazing childhood. She attended the former Smead School and later Master School at Dobbs Ferry, NJ. She often spent the winters of her younger years with her family in the San Diego area. They remained based in Toledo and enjoyed summers on Neebish Island, MI. The family business, Mennel Milling Co., was started by her grandfather and is still operating today, in Fostoria, run by Kittys nephew. Kitty graduated from Vassar College before returning to the Toledo area where she married Dr. Horace Allen, MD. She relocated to Black Mountain, NC, where she lived with Dr. Allen until his death in the mid 1980s. Several years later, Kitty returned to Toledo where she met and later married John Clement, Sr. Kitty and John enjoyed a wonderful life together for 15 years. They traveled to Florida, Hawaii, the west coast and aboard the QE II to Nova Scotia. John and Kitty also enjoyed attending community fine arts programs Kitty truly loved life and people. She had a great appreciation for nature which was reflected in her long time memberships at The Toledo Botanical Gardens and The Toledo Zoo. A pianist, Kitty enjoyed fine music and was a supporter of The Toledo Symphony Orchestra, The Toledo Opera, and The Toledo Museum of Art Classics Series. Kitty also liked animals and had dogs for most of her life. She was a former member of Junior League of Toledo, a Toledo Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of Toledo Country Club, and The Toledo Club. Preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Horace Allen, M.D., Kitty is survived by her husband, John K. Clement, Sr; daughters, Lydia Allen Mark Myers and Katherine A. Harman; granddaughter, Katherine P. Harman; stepchildren, Faith Rich Bill, John Clement, Jr. Christine, Jane Hufstader Ted, and Jim Clement Pat; brother, Don Mennel Pat; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-8PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., where a memorial service will be held on Monday at 11AM. Private interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
