Karl L. Holubetz, 78, of Sylvania, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Karl was born August 2, 1934, in Stevens Point, WI, to Henry and Edna Holubetz. He married Kathleen A. Matthews on June 6, 1964. Karl graduated from Wausau High School, in Wisconsin, and from North Central College, Naperville, IL, with a Business Administration Degree, in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably in the Army Audit Agency for 3 years. Karl joined Owens-Illinois as an accountant at the Tomahawk, WI, Containerboard Mill in 1959, and following several administrative assignments in Toledo, he became Administrative Manager at the Jaite Ohio Mill. Back in Toledo, he was named Special Projects Manager, and in 1968, transferred to the Madison, WIL, Box Plant as Administrative Manager. In 1972, he moved back to Toledo as Forest Products Cost Accounting Manager, and helped install the Profit Evaluation Program PEP, using the first ever released IBM System/32 Computers in the Corrugated Box Plants. Karl retired from O-I when the Forest Products Division was sold. Recently he worked as a sales representative with Data Ranger Computer Products. In his younger years, Karl enjoyed skiing, and was a talented ski jumper, competing in tournaments around the mid-west. He was past-president of the Toledo Ski Club, and helped organize bus ski trips to the clubs lodge in Michigan and other ski areas. Karl was a longtime member of Christ the King Church, sang in the choir, and was past-president of the Christ the King School Board. He liked fly fishing and watching TV coverage of golf tournaments. Karl is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathleen Katie sons, Brian Michelle, Scott Heather, Craig and Patrick Erika; brothers, Darrell and Wayne; sister, Lois Bob Cable; grandsons, Christian, Jay, Patrick and Emiliano; granddaughters, Stephanie and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Howard. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 4-8 pm, in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue, west of Corey, where sharing of memories will take place at 7 pm. Friends may also visit on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 am, in the funeral home where prayers will begin at 10:30 am. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 11:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio Hospice, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, OH, 43551.
