Karen Wagner, age 61, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at UTMC. Karen was born August 27, 1950 in Toledo to Vernon and Helen Wagner. She attended St. Pius X Catholic School and Mary Immaculate Schools. Everyone Karen encountered became her friend, especially her friends at Kroger, Innovative Dialysis, ABC Learning Center, Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Jo Jos. She had a special love for TARTA and the TARTA employees who she considered to be extended family. Karen felt most at home with her church family from St. Pius X Catholic Church. She took great pride in serving Mass beside her special friend and brother, Fr. Jim Sanford. If there was a function at St. Pius, Karen was always there, working or socializing. Karens greatest accomplishment was receiving her GED with numerous hours of encouragement and dedication from Cathy Uvagi. Karen was an inspiration of bravery and perseverance in the face of adversity. Thank you to all who had a part in making Karens life easier and fulfilled. Regardless of the part that you played, you made a world of difference to her. Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Wagner. Friends may visit at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Sunday from 6-8:00pm with a prayer service at 7:30pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3011 Carskaddon, Toledo, OH on Monday at 10:30am. Because education was so important to Karen, in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Karen A. Wagner Educational Scholarship Fund at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Karens family would like to thank the UTMC SICU staff, Dr. Thomas Schwann and his staff, and all the other doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for Karen over the years.
