Karen Smietana, 64, of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Toledo on May 22, 1957, to Richard and Naomi (Wilson) Rehard. She married Richard Smietana on February 25, 1983 and together they raised their family.
Karen was loving, kind, and selfless. She always had a positive outlook in life and her smile was contagious. She loved spending time with family and friends, either at the lake or just simply in their backyard swimming pool. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister who will be greatly missed.
Karen always put 100% into every endeavor. While raising a family and working full time she pursued a bachelor's degree at the University of Toledo. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting with honors Magna Cum Laude in 1997 and earned her CPA license in 1999. Karen was a former member/Treasurer of ProMedica Federal Credit Union, an Ohio Reads Program volunteer at McKinley Elementary School, and a volunteer at Glenwood Elementary School when her grandson was in pre-school.
On May 29, 2015, Karen was reunited with her daughter born in 1977. It was a day that Karen and her family dreamed about and prayed for. Not only did we now have Julie in our lives, but we were also blessed with three beautiful granddaughters.
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Richard Smietana; daughters, Sarah (Randy) Carpenter, and Julie McLaughlin; grandchildren, Colton (Sweet Pea), and baby Carpenter (Tater Tot) due in June, Taylor, Teagan, and Torrie McLaughlin; mother, Naomi Rehard; sisters, Susan (Nicolas) Hormozian and Mary Rehard. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Rehard.
Funeral services for Karen were private and entrusted to Sujkowski Walker Funeral Home, Rossford (419-666-1566). She was laid to rest at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery, Perrysburg. Memorial donations in Karen’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Red Cross. Online condolences may be left to the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
