Karen Elaine (Peth) Roepke, age 72 of Maumee, OH passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous 5 month battle with brain cancer. Karen was born in Toledo, OH on November 25, 1942 to Melvin and Lois (Floering) Peth. Karen attended Zion Lutheran grade school and Libbey High School, graduating in 1960. While in the 5th grade at Zion Lutheran School, she met her future husband, Gerald and they were married on June 16, 1962. Karen worked in the offices of Seaway Foodtown and as a bookkeeper at her husbands plumbing business. Karen also provided many loving years of childcare for her grandchildren as they were growing up. She never missed a dance recital, piano concert or sporting event that involved one of her grandchildren. Karen enjoyed shopping, attending the theater, playing bunco and traveling - with a few of her favorite destinations being New York City and Charleston, SC. She was a volunteer with the St. Lukes Auxiliary for many years and a long time member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Maumee. Karen is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Gerald; daughters, Laurie (Jeffrey) Erford and Cheryl (Matthew) Helmreich; grandchildren, Michelle and Allison Erford and Tyler and Lindsay Helmreich; brother, Richard (Cassandra) Peth; brother-in-law, David (Pam) Roepke and sister-in-law, Margaret Bordner. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Friends and family will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 112 E. Wayne Street, Maumee. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Dr. Catherine Carrigan, Dr. Jason Schroeder, Dr. Krishna Reddy, along with the nursing staff at UTMC, Guardian Angels, The Lakes of Monclova and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care provided to Karen over the past several months.
