Karen Paulen

Karen Sue Paulen, affectionately known as Emma, age 60 from Toledo, Ohio, passed away on March 2, 2021 at the Ebeid Hospice Center in Sylvania, Ohio. She was surrounded by her children and loved ones. She was born on March 14, 1960 in Toledo to Sally Ruth Paulen and John Richard Paulen. She graduated from Rogers High School, Class of 1978, and was a lifelong Toledo resident. She was a member of Cedar Creek Church. Karen was a woodworker by trade and could bring out the pure beauty in any project she touched. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family at gatherings, parties, and cookouts. She loved to travel and dine out and was an avid fan of her beloved Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. She savored any time that she could spend at the lake as it was her happy place. Karen was preceded in death by her mother whom she adored dearly, as well as many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her children, Kelly (Corey) Driver, Keri (Stan) Hernacki, former husband and father of her children, Steven Bergquist, grandchildren, Kayla, Kara, Chloe, Olivia, Stanley Jr., and Kenna, father, John (Sharon) Paulen, loving siblings, Kathy (Jan) Paulen-Shull, John (Michelle) Paulen, Tracy (David) Seeger, nieces and nephews, Jennette, Jennifer, Ross, Anthony, Ashley, and Jonathon, eight great-nieces and nephews, and her best friend, Deborah Driver. The family would like to thank The Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Budev for giving them three more years as Karen passed on the third anniversary of her double lung transplant.
