Karen L. (Richard) Mcmahon

Karen L. McMahon, CMA, 77, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on November 11, 2022. Karen was born in Toledo on October 12, 1944. She graduated from Sylvania High School in 1962 and the Riverside Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a medical assistant in the Toledo area. She was a former Board member of the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce, a former Board member of the Science Alliance for Valuing the Environment, a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants and the Academy of Medicine where she held a leadership role in their office managers group. She was also active with many local charities. Karen relished spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and travelling to Lake Margarethe, Grayling, Michigan. Her hobbies included cruising, playing bunco, crafting, scrapbooking and watching General Hospital. She was the family historian and went all out on Christmas, her favorite holiday. The house was adorned, inside and out, creating a wonderland for all to see. Karen is survived by husband John (Mac) McMahon, daughters Lana (Doug) Haverkamp, and Kathy Boerst, brother Bob (Sandy) Richard, and grandchildren, Justin, Megan, Abby, Brooke, James (Emily) Haverkamp, great grandchildren Cameron and Caleb and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Karen had many friends through her community involvement. She is preceded in death by father, Harold Richard, mother, Lillian Adams, stepfather, Ralph Adams, son, William (Billy) Lusher, and sister, Beryl (Bubbles) Schmidt. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 16th from 4:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. The service will be held on November 17th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Goerlich Family Foundation or Science Alliance for Valuing the Environment. The family wishes to thank Northwest Ohio Hospice and the Franciscan Care Center of Sylvania.
