Karen Kay Holler (Kunisch) passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday January 8th 2021. Karen, the 3rd of 7 children, was born April 3rd 1955 to the late Virginia and Raymond Kunisch of Toledo. A graduate of Start High School in Toledo, she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan (1980) and her Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist from St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center, School of Anesthesia for Nurses (1983). She touched the lives of countless patients through her work as a nurse in the intensive care unit and later as a CRNA over her long career. She recently retired from The University of Toledo Medical Center. Outside of work, Karen was always on the go. She enjoyed swimming, running, competed in several triathlons and was a life-long tennis player. She met her future spouse Ed on the tennis court in 1973 and they married in 1980. Karen instilled her dedication to hard work in her children and was always there to cheer them on to success with Kristen following her into the healthcare profession as an anesthesiologist and John earning his PhD in Mathematics from Karen’s alma mater The University of Michigan. Karen is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ed, children Kristen (Hoang) and John (Haley) and siblings Patricia Diamond (Victor Akylas), Fred Kunisch, Mary Kunisch (George Macawile), Robert Kunisch (Debi), James Kunisch (Carol) and Joseph Kunisch (Elle). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Way Public Library of Perrysburg, OH or The YMCA of Greater Toledo.
