June C. Whittingham

June C. Whittington, age 93, of Toledo, died Saturday morning, May 3, 2014 at Flower Hospital. She was born January 7, 1921 in Toledo to the late Earl and Thelma Walling Chilcote. Her loving husband, Robert M. Whittington, preceded her in death on June 28, 1998. June graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1938 and Miami University in 1942 where she was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority. She was homemaker and had previously been employed at Owens-Illinois until the birth of her son. June was a longtime member of First Congregational Church and its Womens Fellowship. Regularly active in community service, she was on the volunteer board at Sunset House; was a member of the Lucas County Board of Elections for many years serving as a precinct judge; and delivered Mobile Meals. June enjoyed physical conditioning and kept busy with Jazzercise, cross country skiing and cycling. She also enjoyed golf and was an avid Bridge player. June will be affectionately remembered as a traditional lady who was a devoted wife and loving mother. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Robert M. Whittington, Jr.; sister, Betty Jo Buggie; nephew, John C. Buggie; and niece, Martha Louise Kenney. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.Memorials are suggested to First Congregational Church, 2315 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, OH 43620.
