June Shekut, 85, of Sylvania Township, died in her home on 1-22-2023 of natural causes, surrounded by her loving family.

June loved Eddie with all her heart. They were truly best friends and were there for each other. June says that she and Ed were exceptionally close as a couple, rarely arguing and teasing each other daily. On Mother’s Day, just May 9th of 2021 a few weeks before Eddie died, Ed and June renewed their vows and exchanged rings again. On June 21, 2022, Ed and June would have celebrated 64 years of marriage.

June had a long career in the helping professions, starting out as a Visiting Nurse in Highland Park, Illinois, then later obtaining her       Bachelor of Science in nursing and becoming a registered nurse.

A woman of boundless energy and passion for learning, June obtained her master’s degree in Educational Psychology (Counseling) from the University of Wisconsin, and went on to be a Guidance Counselor for 3 years. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, June become a Psychiatric Nurse Instructor at Cleveland Metro General Hospital School of Nursing where she enjoyed teaching young nurses.

Later, June got her master’s degree in labor and human relations from Cleveland State. June’s second masters and her experience as a Director of Nursing at a nursing home in Westlake, Ohio for one year led her to take a job as Director of Nursing, and then Branch Manager, at Staff Builders. June spent the last happy years of her career at the Cleveland Clinic as a Discharge Planner and Utilization Review Specialist. June loved the Cleveland Clinic and being able to help both residents and patients in her role.

June loved people, talking to people and listening to people. She was not materialistic, but she got joy out of life’s simple pleasures. June enjoyed giving silly gifts and throwing parties at all her workplaces whenever she could.

June cared about her family. She was a big family reunion afficionado and was beloved by her cousins, nieces and nephews. June loved family parties and people. She and her husband, Eddie, organized and threw many happy family reunions through the years in both Illinois and Ohio. June’s children and grandchildren were the light of her life. June loved to spend time with her three grandchildren. She delighted in watching them grew up and created skits and dances with them for family parties.

As June got older and had retired from work, her back issues made it difficult for her to travel, walk and exercise. June and Ed loved to go to the St. Francis YMCA in Lambertville, Michigan, to swim and take water aerobics classes. June made friends in the class and was sad when she could no longer swim due to back pain in her last few years.

June was a positive, warm, loving, happy, woman who will be missed by her family and all that knew and loved her. The world is a better place because June was in it. June was laid to rest on February 4, 2023 at Toledo Memorial Park. She and Eddie lived together in happiness and rest together in peace.
