June L. (Oldman) Scott, 68, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her residence, on Saturday, October 22, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. June was born on June 16, 1954, in Hanover, Michigan, the daughter of Leslie S. and Shirley A. (Smith) Oldman.
She was raised in Hanover, Michigan and Boca Raton, Florida. While attending Boca High School, in Boca Raton, she was one of the top players of the golf team in 1969, 1970 and 1971.
June graduated from Michigan State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. While there, she was a member of the golf team lettering in 1974, 1975 and 1976 and was a Big Ten Golf Medalist in 1975. June remained a lifelong Spartan. After graduating from MSU she returned to Boca Raton and served as Green Superintendent at Boca Del Mar’s south golf course. She had always wanted to follow her passion of agronomy.
June received a master’s degree in Radiological and Environmental Sciences in 1997 from the University of Findlay. June was introduced to nuclear power as her dad was an engineer who designed nuclear power plants. She started her career at Consumers Power at the never opened Midland Power Plant. In 1986 she relocated to Ohio and started her 25-year career at Davis Besse, first as a nuclear chemist. She had many roles at Davis Besse but spent most of her time in the Radiation Protection group as a technician, health physicist and retiring as the RP Technical Services Supervisor. June was both a leader and a mentor to many throughout her career. Many of the programs she established in dosimetry, respiratory protection and technical work still stand today, as her intelligence and tenacity resonated through everything she did.
June was an avid and accomplished amateur golfer who enjoyed the sport her entire life. Throughout the years she played on many courses, competed in countless matches, and made new and lasting friendships.
June married Ronald J. Scott, whom she met while employed at Davis Besse Nuclear Power Station, on February 28, 1989. They spent over three decades together, devoted to each other and their shared love of golfing and traveling, until his death in 2019.
June is survived by her nieces, Debra Benko, Beth Benko, Christine Reed-Lamb, and Cheryl Reed-Fahey, nephew, Steve Benko, and stepson, James (Gloria) Scott along with many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Shirley Oldman and husband, Ronald Scott.
