Julius Fred Plassman was born in Napoleon, Ohio on September 4, 1923 to George and Anna Khars Plassman. He left this life on July 10th in Xenia where he has lived for the last four years. Fred had one older brother, Roland and a younger brother, Herbert and a younger sister, Marian. He graduated from Wauseon HS in 1941. He served in the US Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945. Upon discharge he studied at BGSU where he earned a B.S. Degree in Business Admin. in 1949. Also while at BGSU he met and fell in love with Doris Smart whom he married on June 18, 1949. Together they raised two sons, Fred and David and enjoyed the blessing of two daughters in law, Jan and Jerri along with five grandchildren, David wife Lisa, Anna and Steve wife Sarah as well as Erin husband Joe and Drew. With time they also added seven great grandchildren, Nicholas and Leah, Bella and Gabby, Grace, Jesse and Samantha. Fred was the Asst. Controller at Toledo Edison where he had worked for more than 31 years. He was a faithful and involved member of St. Pauls Lutheran for more than 45 years. He belonged to several nature-oriented organizations: Naturalists Camera Club of Toledo, Toledo Naturalist Association and Black Swamp Bird Observatory. Fred is recognized by all who knew him as a great man of faith and virtue. He is survived by his sister, wife, and children with their families and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Monday July 16th, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee. A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, July 17th, 2012 at 10am at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 112 E Wayne Street, Maumee, Ohio. Burial will follow at Wauseon Union Cemetery.
