Julius Raymond “Jeep” Materni, age 79, of Toledo, died May 1, 2021 at The Toledo Hospital with his family by his side. He was born January 17, 1942 in Toledo to Julius and Alice (Westfall) Materni. He graduated from Rossford High School Class of 1960. Jeep was a Patrolman for the Toledo Police Department until retirement in 1988. Jeep enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas to play his favorite video poker machine. Post retirement, he also found joy in spending time with his grandchildren and was an animal lover. He was strong-willed, carefree, and had a great sense of humor. Jeep will be remembered as a man of few words. Jeep is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Janet (Demko) Materni; children, Kenneth Materni (Sally), Scott Materni (Julie), Jeff Materni (Ginger) and Allison Armstrong (Mike); seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters, Susan Hens and Sally Rumer; and brother, Robert Materni (Rita). Jeep was preceded in death by siblings, Sandy Cluckey and Thomas Materni. Family and friends are invited to visit from 3-7 PM., Monday, May 10, 2021 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (West of Corey Rd.). A gathering to celebrate Jeep’s life will be held 11:30 AM, Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Bar 145, 5305 Monroe Street, Toledo, OH. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff at SICU at The Toledo Hospital for their compassionate care of Jeep throughout his stay.
