Judy Mae Sheets, 77, of Genoa, OH passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Genoa Care Center, Genoa, OH. She was born on February 20, 1943 in Toledo, OH to Howard and Lucille Haton. As the youngest of three children she enjoyed time with her older brothers Dale and Ralph and their occasional teasing. She had a special relationship with her father and loved the way he made her laugh. Judy attended and graduated from Genoa High School where she met LeRoy Sheets and fell in love. The two were married on July 6, 1963. A few years after their wedding, Roy and Judy moved to California as a result Roy’s enlistment in the United States Navy. There they adopted their two sons Troy and Scott. Judy faithfully and lovingly cared for her children while Roy was gone on multiple deployments during the Vietnam War. After completing his time of service, they moved to Bowling Green, OH to raise their new family. Not long after this move, she became a part of God’s family by trusting in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. Family gatherings were one of Judy’s most cherished times. She loved the holidays when she would get together with her family. Food, games, and laughter filled the gatherings and Judy relished every moment. Judy had a natural talent for art that she developed through some formal schooling at the University of Cincinnati, but mostly through her own education and experience. She watched painting shows, viewed instructional material, and practiced a variety of artistic methods from sketching, oil painting, and watercolors. Her artistic ability was used to serve others and honor Jesus. She painted a beautiful “Winnie the Pooh” mural in her church nursery that made a person feel like they were in the Hundred-acre woods. She also did caricatures for the church children and portraits of her two sons and her grandchildren. Judy loved her Lord Jesus and served as the church custodian, attended Bible studies, and helped with children’s programs. Her giving spirit was demonstrated through thoughtful gifts, serving where she could, and working as an assistant teacher for those with special needs. She also gave to various other Christian ministries over the years. In 2009 Judy suffered a stroke that took her ability to write and draw and affected her memory. Though her abilities were limited, she still displayed a giving spirit and loved to hand out chocolate kisses wherever she went. Whether it was at the grocery store, bank, or even a restaurant, Judy would make sure the staff received a “kiss.” In recent years Judy battled Alzheimer’s which further affected her mental and physical abilities. In 2017 Judy and Roy moved to the Genoa Care Center where Judy could receive the additional care she needed. Eventually the effects of her stroke and Alzheimer’s ended her life on this earth and began her eternal life in glory with her loving Savior Jesus Christ. Judy is survived by her loving husband, LeRoy Sheets; Children, Troy (Veronica) Sheets and Scott (Christy) Sheets; grandchildren, Trent Sheets, Toby Sheets, Elijah Sheets, and Abigail Sheets; her brothers, Dale (Rita) Haton and Ralph (Elaine) Haton, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Lucille Haton. A Celebration of Life gathering for Judy will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 4-8 p.m. at the Schedel Gardens in Elmore, OH.
