Judith "Judi" St. John passed away peacefully on February 27 at the Lakes of Monclova. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; a compassionate nurse; a cherished friend; and a gracious hostess who welcomed family and friends to hundreds of celebrations at their home.
Judi shared 52 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Larry. She was a deeply loving mother to her four children: John Rublaitus (Thoibi Rublaitus), William St. John, Robert St. John, and Mary, aka Katie, Hughes (Seth Hughes). Her greatest joy was her family, and she was a proud and adoring grandmother to Isabel and Ethan Hughes, delighting in watching them grow.
Nursing was more than a career for Judi-it was her calling. Inspired by caring for a neighbor in her teenage years, she attended Mercy School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Over a decades-long career, she served at Maumee Valley, the VA Hospital, Riverside Hospital in Ann Arbor, and a family practice with Drs. Fraiser and Baldoni in Perrysburg for 12 years, and later St. Luke's Hospital, where she retired after 20 years. Even then, she never stopped being a nurse, lovingly caring for family members and faithfully tending to Larry throughout his battle with cancer until his passing in April 2024.
Born and raised in Maumee, Judi graduated from Maumee High School in 1961. Though quiet by nature, she formed friendships early in life that endured for decades, relationships she deeply treasured with the group affectionately known as the "Gray Panthers" later in life.
Judi was preceded in death by her parents, William Emerson (1962) and Dorothy Slusser Emerson (2005); her brother, William Emerson (2018), and his wife, Louanne Heidtman Emerson (2023); her sister, Evelyn Gallagher (2008); and her husband, Larry St. John (2024). She is survived by her brothers-in-law, John Gallagher and David St. John (Linda St. John).
Judi will be remembered for her quiet strength, steadfast care, and lifelong habit of caring for others. Her love and legacy live on in all who knew her.
Services will be held at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio 43537. Visitation will take place on Monday, March 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by an informal time of sharing from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., and will conclude at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Lakes of Monclova and to all who offered kindness, support, and prayers during Judi's final days.
