Judith A. Sharrer

August 31, 1939 — July 30, 2023

Judith Ann Sharrer (Bongle) was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. Judy went to be with her dearest friend, Jesus on July 29, 2023, at the age of 83.

Judy was born August 31, 1939, in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin to the late Leonard Bongle and Sylvia (Dahl) Bongle. She married Allen Joseph Sharrer on January 15, 1966. Preceding her in death, her dear husband of 42 years, Allen Joseph Sharrer and their sons Grant and Tony Sharrer.

She is survived by her children Maureen (Scott) Ford-Rippeon, Edward (Judy) Sharrer, Ray (Lisa) Sharrer; stepson Craig Sharrer; grandchildren Allen Sharrer, Amy Vander Schrier, Eddie Sharrer, Emily Sharrer, Sophia Sharrer, Kye Sharrer and Kady Sharrer; and a great grandchild Nathaniel Sharrer.

Shortly after graduating high school, Judy moved to Washington DC where she worked at the Federal Department of Agriculture for several years in the early 1960’s. During her time in Washington DC, she got to witness President Kennedy in an open top limousine with the Shah of Iran driving down the street. She would later move back to her hometown of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin where she met her husband, Allen. Allen worked as an engineer on a lake freighter and in the wintertime the ships would lay up because of the ice on the lakes. In the year 1965, he laid up the freighter in Sturgeon Bay. Judy’s father, Leonard, was the owner of a restaurant where Allen often went for his meals. Leonard quickly became friends with Allen and decided he would introduce Allen to his daughter, Judy where it was love at first sight. After marrying, they moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, Allen’s hometown. Two years later they moved to Perrysburg, Ohio. Judy spent the next 45 years of her life in Perrysburg before moving to Lufkin, Texas to be with her oldest son, Ed, and his family. In early 2023 Judy moved to Little Rock, AR to live and receive medical care.

It would be an understatement to say that Judy loved all animals and owned a wide variety of them over the years including dogs, cats, mice, a ferret, and even a snake. For the last two years of her life, she did not have a pet of her own so she would help walk her neighbor’s dog, Sparky, nearly 2 miles every day. Judy could tell you the name of every dog, and their owner’s name in that two-mile area she walked Sparky. Judy had a big heart for those who have been abused or underprivileged and spent many years volunteering for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). She received the CASA guardian ad litem of the year in Toledo, Ohio for her dedicated help of abused children. She also served with the prison ministry of the First Apostolic Church of Toledo, Ohio for several years. She was dedicated to weekly visits to the women’s prison helping to administer to the female inmates. Judy immensely enjoyed helping others whenever possible and even opened her own home at least twice to allow those less fortunate to live with her until they could get their own housing. Judy will be missed by all those who loved her.
