Judith Mock

Judy Mock passed away at her home on September 20 after a 10-year battle with cancer.

Judy was born and raised in Toledo, OH. She graduated from Devilbiss High School in 1958, after which she entered Riverside-White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus, OH, graduating with a 3-year diploma in 1961.

After graduation, Judy worked in a surgery as a charge nurse in an orthopedic operating room, but it wasn't long before she and three of her nurse friends hit the road for jobs in San Francisco. She returned to Toledo in 1963 and began working at the first ICU at Toledo Hospital, later moving to neurology. In the late 1980s she became a home health nurse doing case management in Lucas County and surrounding areas and then in the U.P. of Michigan. She carried her nursing mind-set with her when she moved to StoryPoint in Waterville, OH, where she became the first Resident Ambassador, helping new residents become acclimated to their new environment.

Judy met and married Carl in 1964. The two loved road rallies, sailing on Lakes Erie, Huron and Superior and through the North Channel, as well as with friends in the Greek, Tahitian, and Virgin Islands, skiing with the Toledo Ski Club, and traveling through all 50 states, Mexico, Canada and several European countries. They built a home in the Les Cheneaux Islands where she began painting and was active with the Arts Commission and the Historical Society. She developed a love for painting that continued through the rest of her life, culminating in the formation of a weekly art class at StoryPoint that has enriched the lives of many residents. Judy had much to be proud of in her life, but she wrote that her greatest accomplishments were raising two beautiful and accomplished children and bonding with her "lost" daughter, Therese, later in life.

Judy is survived by daughter, Pamela Davis, son, Michael Mock, daughter, Therese, sister, Patricia Connolly, several cousins as well as nieces and nephews, and Dave Avina, partner late in life.

She is preceded in death by husband, Carl Mock, son-in-law, Matthew Davis, parents, Sam and Gladys Hammonds, and dearest friend Cathy Clark.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 26 at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH (west of Corey Rd.) from 10-11:45 am.
