It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our family matriarch, Judith Ann Knecht, who passed away on Saturday, January 25th, 2025. Judy passed peacefully surrounded by her family. Those who knew her loved her.
Judy, known as Nanny to most, was born on December 12th, 1942, to Harvey and Hildreth Hephner. She married John R. Knecht on December 9th, 1964, and together, they raised four amazing children.
Judy dedicated her life to her family and community. She spent her time running the Care and Share in Gypsum OH for over 30 years helping countless families in Ottawa County and the surrounding areas. She touched many lives in her 82 years, all of whom are better having known her.
Judy’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved attending their sporting events, playing checkers, Thursday luncheons, and Friday dinners. Her time with her family was always the highlight of her week. Judy couldn’t wait to share with everyone how many grandchildren/great-grandchildren she had and details of their latest accomplishments. Secretly, she enjoyed hearing them argue about who was her favorite (we all know who it was).
She is survived by her children: Michelle Gaines, John (Toni) Knecht, Julie (John) Lindemann, Dennis Knecht; Grandchildren: Jack “JJ” Taylor, John Dale (Megan) Knecht, Heather (Michael) Tanner, Steven Taylor, Jessica (Caleb) Goodwin, Brian (Acacia) Knecht, Britney (TJ) Stiltner, Kayla (Josh) Woody, Kevin Knecht, Zachary Knecht, Austin Lindemann; Great grandchildren: Noah Knecht, Emma Knecht, Lilly Taylor, Isaac Taylor, Logan Knecht, Baylee Knecht, Bellah Woody, Wesley Knecht, Cassidy Goodwin, Kolton Woody, Blakelyn Stiltner, Cameron Goodwin; Brother: Tom (Donna) Hephner; Nephew: Bobby (Diane) Hephner; Dear friends: Sue Brown and Stella Beachler. Judy was preceded in death by her parents: Harvey and Hildreth, brother Kenneth “Jim” Hephner, and her loving husband John, who we know has been waiting for years to get his beloved “Moose” back.
Since Nanny was “the boss,” her family will fulfill her final wish of cremation with no services.
Memorial contributions can be made to the National MS Society, the Arthritis Foundation, the American Heart Association, or Bistro 163.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of ProMedica Toledo Hospital and Ottawa Riverview Health Care Campus Station 2, Particularly Miranda, DJ, and Meenal, for their exceptional care. The Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Port Clinton is assisting with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
