Judith “Judy” Ann Dunwoody, 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away suddenly on May 10, 2025. Born in Nelsonville, Ohio on April 1, 1942, to William and Maxine Stem, Judy’s warmth, laughter, and devotion to her family made her a cherished presence in every room she entered.
She was a proud graduate of Glouster High School. Judy met the love of her life, William “Bill” Dunwoody, in 1961. The two were married on February 3, 1962, beginning a beautiful journey together that would span over six decades. Not long after, they relocated from the hills of Southern Ohio to Toledo, where Bill took a job with General Motors. Though she settled in the city, Judy’s heart always belonged to the hills.
Judy dedicated her life to being a loving and devoted homemaker. She found joy and fulfillment in the simple but meaningful rhythms of daily life — cooking, cleaning, gardening, and keeping her home filled with warmth. Her meals were legendary, always made with love, and often declared her husband’s favorites.
She especially loved holidays, when her home was filled with laughter, good food, and the company of her beloved family. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite times of year. She also enjoyed quiet evenings watching The Golden Girls and NCIS, and spent many happy hours chatting with her grandchildren on her iPad. Judy found peace in tending to her flowers and spending time outdoors. She was known for her bright personality, loving heart, and her favorite song, Swingin’ by John Anderson.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, William “Bill” Dunwoody; children, Rick (Linda), Mark (Kristy), and Jerry Dunwoody; 8 grandkids; 14 great-grandkids; sister, Sue (Bill) Northrop; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and her beloved Chihuahua, Starr. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Maxine Stem; and siblings, George, Junior, Bob, and Jenny Stem.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Walker Funeral Home – Oregon, 3500 Navarre Ave, Oregon, Ohio 43616. A memorial service for Judy will begin at 7:00pm in the funeral chapel. Memorial donations in Judy’s honor may be made to the family or to the Bon Secours Mercy Health Foundation.
