Joyce E. Wehner

Joyce E. Wehner King, age 74, died on May 06, 2009 at home with care from family and Hospice of N.W. Ohio. She was born in Elliston, Ohio on October 17, 1934 to Gertrude King Young and Frank King. They preceded her in death. After graduation from Oak Harbor High School, she married Gerald Wehner. Several years later it was decided that she could attend Bowling Green State University Branch at night to earn a teaching degree and continue to raise her two children successfully. Joyces desire to serve community in becoming an elementary school teacher was fulfilled through a 25 year career with Fremont City Schools in Lindsey, Ohio. Summer visits to Lakeside evolved into a place of summer residency at the lake for 19 summer seasons after retiring from teaching. Joyce was enraptured by the community and truly relished friendships found. Other retirement adventures included extended winter stays in Florida and travel to several foreign countries. Surviving is her husband Gerald of 55 years, son Tim of Michigan, daughter Sandra Posch and granddaughter Marie-Louise of North Carolina, and brother Roger King of Oklahoma. Friends and family will be received Monday, May 11, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 6- 8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, Oak Harbor, OH. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 12, 2009 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, with Rev. David A. Voll officiating, where there will be additional visitation from 10 am until the time of the service. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorials in memory of Joyce may be made to the Lakeside-Hoover Auditorium seating upgrade, or the Music Ministry at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Oak Harbor.
