Joyce Kay Mitchell Rice, 79 years old, of Toledo, Oh., passed peacefully away into the loving arms of Jesus on June 12, 2008 at Kingston Nursing Facility. She was born to Harry and Jessie Mitchell on July 11, 1928 in Mount Vernon, Oh. Joyce graduated from the University of Toledo from the College of Arts & Sciences majoring in Art. She married Russell on September 1, 1951. She pursued her interest in art by working in the Art dept. at Libbey Glass. She was a loving wife and mother. Joyce was a long-time member of Washington Church where she sang in the choir, Quarry Ridge Community Church, the Toledo Artists Club, and the Northwest Ohio Watercolor Society. She exhibited her award winning paintings at many regional art shows and was an original exhibitor at UTs Art on the Mall. She is survived by Russell W.; brother, William Mitchell and sister, Janice Skinner; children, Gregg Sue, Julie Steve Frazier, Russ Jr. Cheryl, and Pam; grandchildren, Jon & Katy Rice; Jessica, Garrett, Robert, Mitchell, William, & Benn Frazier; and Emma and Elliot Rice. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Iris. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lawrence Elmer and the Staff at the Center for Neurological Disorders at the UT Medical Center, Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice, & Kingston Nursing Facility for their exceptional care of Joyce. Visitation will be at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Monday, June 16, from 3-5pm and from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held at the Toledo Botanical Gardens , 5403 Elmer Dr. on Thursday, June 19 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be given to the Center for Neurological Disorders, Quarry Ridge Community Church, the Toledo Botanical Gardens, or Heartland Hospice.
