Joyce Rhegness, age 77, was called to be with her Heavenly Father on December 3, 2018 surrounded by her loving children. Joyce was born on March 28, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Adeline and Willard Rutchow. Joyce accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifetime member at Memorial Lutheran Church. Joyce was educated at Devilbiss High School and graduated in 1959. After high school, she proceeded to study nursing at Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri where she made many lifelong friends. Following her education, Joyce served as a nurse for over four decades, where she was beloved by her colleagues at many health care centers in the Toledo area. Joyce also became a professor of nursing at Owens Community College, where over thirty years, she impacted countless students with her humor and witty style of teaching. Known for her liveliness and passion for life, Joyce was an avid traveler and especially loved her trips to Las Vegas. Her claim to fame was her love for the game “Candy Crush”, in which she was first in the country and second in the world. Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, father, and sister, Willa Richmond. She is survived by her lifetime partner, Chuck Rhegness; children, Lori Carr, David (Karen) Rhegness, and Jim (Leslie) Rhegness; five grandchildren; and many, many friends. Those wishing to remember Joyce may do so at her viewing on Sunday, December 9th from 2-7 p.m. at Walker funeral home 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH 4362 (west of Corey Rd). A funeral service will be held at 10 am Monday, December 10th at Memorial Lutheran Church 3215 Douglas Rd, Toledo, Ohio 43606. In lieu of flowers, Joyce requested that donations be made to The American Cancer Society or Memorial Lutheran Church. Condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
