Joyce Kernes

Joyce Kernes of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully under hospice care, on December 29, 2022, at the age of 95. She will be truly missed by her surviving family; son, Leo (Butch) Kernes, daughter, Theresa Woods, and son-in-law, James (Kerry) Woods; grandchildren, Kaylee Woods, Kendal Woods, Jaime Woods, Krystyn (Caleb) Barney; great-grandchildren, Asher, and Penelope Barney. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Harmon Kernes, and daughter Karen Kernes.

Joyce’s outgoing personality helped her make many friends over the years. Her 90th surprise birthday party was attended by over 150 people. Up until her early 90’s, Joyce was a competitive bridge player and an avid reader, who would sometimes read up to 3 books in one day. She loved her sweets, especially chocolate. Mostly, Joyce loved to travel; exploring places like Japan, Germany, Mexico, and her favorite yearly trip to Marco Island, Florida, with her sister and brother-in-law, Jean, and Jim Conley.

A visitation for Joyce will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 12:00-2:00PM, at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo. A funeral service will follow at 2:00PM.

In honor of Joyce, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
