Bigney Joyce Hamann, Gillespie Joyce Hamann Gillespie Bigney passed away Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Toledo Hospital. Joyce was born Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1927. She was the first born to Norman and Jean Hamann. Joyce liked to joke, Mom ate a turkey dinner, then went to the hospital and had another turkey.me. Joyce graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1945, then worked at the central YMCA as a secretary for Doc Miller and Tippitt until a job in the accounting department of H.H. Buggie and Company opened. She worked there until she married the late Raymond Gillespie and started her family. Joyce was a Cub Scout den mother, a volunteer for the Toledo Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of Washington Local Retirees Group. She went back to work after her children were all in school at the Whitmer High School Library until 1988 when a stroke made it impossible to continue working. Joyce is survived by her loving and patient husband, Donald S. Bigney; five wonderful children, Deborah Gillespie, Jennifer Teachout Jim, Kevin Gillespie Janice of Dallas, TX, Douglas Gillespie Sue, and Jeffrey Gillespie; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joan Hamann and Karen Fravor; and brother-in-law, Jim Woodgate. Her parents, sister, Marilyn Woodgate and brothers, Richard and David Hamann preceded her to heaven. Joyce asks that guardian angels look after her friends of 70 years, Betty DeMars and Geri Nachazel who could always make her laugh, along with her friends Carolyn Williams, Carol Grey and Rosie Craig. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00am.
