Joyce L. Awls, 64 of Toledo, Ohio passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born August 30, 1946 in Cleveland, Mississippi to James and Christine Tennie Awls. She was educated through the Toledo Public Schools, attending, Lincoln, Robinson Jr. High, Scott and finally finishing at Libbey High School before moving to Florida, later to return to Ohio. She worked for Goodwill Industries briefly before her illness. She enjoyed playing softball and all types of board games. Joyce loved being with her family at various gatherings and playing Rook and Uno with her favorite partner nephew, Justin. Her competitiveness was seen in her willingness to win. She was the best when it came to making Ice Box Lemon Pie we will surely miss her and that delicious pie. Sister Joyce was a faithful member of True Light Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years until illness prevented her from attending regularly. She was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and was filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost and began her spiritual walk with God. She loved playing her tambourine during praise and worship. Sister Joyce could be seen working with Vacation Bible School or simply singing in the adult choir. Her contribution of service and finance will not go unnoticed and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Proceeded in death by her parents Pastor James and Christine Awls, Sister Clarie Carter, step-mother Mellon Awls and step-sister Olivia Pannell. She is survived by her children, son, Terry Chris Awls and their children Jasmine, Cameron, Braden, daughter Sherry White and her children Sheena Frye, Naneice White, great grand daughter Asanti Jones, brothers Dist. Elder Sylvester Kara Awls, Jimmie Sharon Awls, sisters Doris David Daniels, Eva Grisham, Bobbie Cross, step-mother Evg. Versie Awls, step-sisters Faye Betts, Elder Marlene Butler, Darlene Bunton, step-brothers GlenJackie, JeffreyHolly, LamarrKaCynthia, godchildren Lynnette, Anwanette Patton, O.J. Johnson, Nicholas Morningstar, Gerald Jones, Antwan Smith , Christian Louis and a host of relatives and friends. Special thanks to those who helped in her care during her illness.
