Josephine Marek, 87, of Gypsum, OH died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. She was born on August 23, 1921 in Lakeside, OH to Peter and Mary Chura Kokinda. On September 22, 1940 in Marblehead, OH, she married Bennie Marek, and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1997. Josephine worked as a cook at Portage Elementary School for 25 years. She was a member of St. Marys Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead. Josephine is survived by her daughters: Marilyn Marek of Gypsum and Bonnie Clyde Crum of Oak Harbor; sons: Gerald Marek of Port Clinton and John Marek of Huntersville, NC; 5 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Sophia Bocan, Mary Kruszynski, Alice Scuba, Margaret Burr, Anna Beerman , Veronica Gaydos, and Lena Zvolensky and brothers: Joe and Pete Kokinda. Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2009 at St. Marys Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead, where the body will lie in state one hour prior to the services. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, where Panachida services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton.
