Joseph Tomaselli Jr., lovingly known as “Papa” and “Lasagna Joe,” passed away on June 23, 2025, at the age of 76, following health complications.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, on September 25, 1948, to Joseph Tomaselli Sr. and Earith (Brown), Joseph was a 1968 graduate of Waite High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, working in communications and competing as a boxer. After his service, he worked on the railroad before spending many years at Jeep, beginning in the body shop before transitioning to inspection, final inspection, and then 17 years of forklift operation.
Joseph enjoyed bowling, visiting the racetrack and casino, and playing poker and darts. He was a talented artist, loved watching the History Channel—especially American Pickers and Pawn Stars—and never missed the news. His homemade lasagna became his trademark, earning him the nickname “Lasagna Joe” from WSPD radio, as he often delivered large batches to local businesses.
Joseph was heavily involved with the East Toledo Junior Football Association and he enjoyed giving a Sportsmanship award, named after his father, to a coach for the whole team every season. He also played semi pro football for the Toledo Patriots #99.
He is survived by his children, Shannon (Johnny) Tomaselli-Delgado and Joseph Tomaselli III; grandchildren, Anthony Carusone and Kennedy (Daniel) Lara; nephews, Chad (Kendra), Frankie, and Tomas Tomaselli; great-nephew, Jagger Tomaselli; great-nieces, Kaylee and Wednesday; and aunt, Vicky. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Cathy, Victor, and Frank Tomaselli Sr.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 30, 2025, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home – Oregon Chapel, 3500 Navarre Avenue, Oregon, Ohio, with a brief service at 1 p.m. As Joseph was a die-hard Ohio State fan, guests are invited to wear Ohio State gear and bring Ohio State stickers to place on Joseph’s casket. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the family to help with expenses.
