Joseph Siefer

December 17, 1954 — December 15, 2021

Joseph (“Joe” or “Joey”) E. Siefer, 66, of Sylvania, passed away on December 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by his wife and children. He lived a life of laughter, hard work, adventure, and love, and had battled pancreatic cancer for the final 15 months of his life. Joe graduated from Pandora-Gilboa High School where he ran track and played football, basketball, and baseball. Joe was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University. During his college years, he began his successful career with UPS, retiring in 2009 after 36 years holding positions in multiple operations departments and national assignments, especially enjoying UPS’ National Air Launch. Training new package car and tractor-trailer drivers (or “cowboys” as he sometimes called them) was how he learned patience to teach his children to drive. Joe returned to UPS post-retirement every “peak season” through 2019 as his dispatching skills were second to none! Joe was a huge fan of the Buckeyes; enjoyed collecting fun toys such as tractors (John Deere only!), Little Golden Books, Santa Bears, and Hallmark ornaments; and playing golf. He played softball most of his adult life joining leagues in Columbus and Sylvania and attended many Mud Hens and Clippers games over the years. He liked to take road trips to see the American sights, most recently travelling to a secluded beach house in South Carolina, out west to South Dakota where he saw Mount Rushmore, and a John Deere “tour” of Iowa. He loved driving-anything! Especially his red Corvettes and “Sunshine,” his yellow Nissan 350Z. Christmas was Joe’s favorite time of year and he had five large Christmas trees and many, many advent calendars all around the house! There was always either a Christmas CD playing or a Hallmark Christmas movie on TV. He loved celebrating with family and enjoying every tradition the season had to offer. Joe loved spending most of his time with his immediate and extended family and would often grab a deck of cards to begin a game of Euchre. He was always the one to call if you needed advice, wanted to talk out an idea, needed a helping hand to cook some chicken or remodel a bathroom, or help getting a car part. He would do anything for his family and was a trusted source of wisdom, strength and of course lots of love. He loved watching his children and grandsons playing their sports and tried to be at every game/match/meet/performance he could. He made days brighter by whistling his favorite songs, reading books in character voices to his children when they were young, trying to get birdies on the course, and wearing his “lucky shirt” to cheer on the Buckeyes during big games. Joe was the most wonderful husband, father, Bepa, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend and will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he touched. Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Lois, brothers Mike, Bill, and Jim, sister Ginny, and nephew Quinton Johnson. Joe is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joy; daughters Ginger (David) Berrie, Amy (Ken) Siefer Schiltz, and Jordan (Jon) D’Rozario; son Joseph (“Joey”) (Andrea) Siefer, Jr.; grandsons Alex and Ryan Berrie; father Gene Siefer; brothers Terry (Jan) Siefer, Gerald (Grace) Siefer, and Bob (Deb) Siefer; sisters Patti (Jim) Wilcox and Tonia (Scott) Campbell; aunts Juanita Alt and Dorothy Siefer; over 50 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins, extended family and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, between 4-7pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43623, with a time to share cherished memories at 6pm. Please think of your favorite Joe stories and memories to share because his family and friends look forward to hearing them! In lieu of flowers or plants, you may send a card to the family but please go out for ice cream with your friends/family (and order a big plain vanilla cone for Joe!).
