Joseph M. Realy

Joseph M. Realy, age 80, of Toledo, Ohio, was born on January 5, 1946, in Alpena, Michigan, to Joseph and Mabel Realy. Joseph passed peacefully, going home to be reunited with his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary L. Realy, shortly after spending his first wedding anniversary without her on January 3.

Joseph was a man who truly enjoyed connecting with others. He found great joy communicating through his citizens' band radio, affectionately known as his CB radio. Using the handle “Ridge Runner,” Joseph spent countless hours talking with people across the country and even around the world. He deeply enjoyed the camaraderie and the wide variety of conversations he shared with people from all walks of life.

Joseph dedicated much of his working life to Supreme Bumper in Toledo, where he served as a supervisor over chrome plating from 1967 until the company closed in 2003. He took pride in his work and remained loyal throughout his long career.

Joseph and his wife were homebodies at heart and found their greatest happiness simply being together and spending time with their family. Known for being ornery in the best way possible, Joseph’s sharp wit and incredible sense of humor were hallmarks of his personality. He was a loving husband and devoted father, deeply family-oriented, and proudly regarded as the patriarch of the family.

He also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially black licorice and Zero candy bars.

In their later years, Joseph and Mary were lovingly cared for by their daughter Denise, who served as their primary caregiver, along with caring for their four cats. Joseph cherished the time spent in her care, and Denise was honored to be there for her parents during their time of need.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Realy; his daughter, Velma Elekes; his parents, Joseph and Mabel Realy; and his brothers, Sam and Johnny Realy.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandie Schuler (Rick), Gail Delaney (Steve), and Denise Realy; grandchildren, Amber Dunlap, Amanda Dunlap, Kyliegh Delaney, Patricia Schuler, and Teri Schuler; and great-grandchildren, Porsha Wolfrum and Tessa Yeary.

Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place, and his family will honor his life privately.
