Joseph E. Orwig, Sr.

Joseph E. Orwig, Sr., age 92, passed away peacefully at his home on March 6, 2016. He was born to Earl and Ruth Orwig in Toledo, Ohio. A native of Toledo, Joseph graduated from Scott High School. Becoming a mechanic, he worked for over forty years at Jeep until his retirement in 1989. He was a veteran of the Navy where he earned Lieutenant Junior Grade and served as a pilot during World War II. Throughout his life, Joseph was mechanically inclined and could fix anything. He loved spending time with his wife of nearly seventy years, Roberta, at their summer home on Lake Michigan. Above all, Josephs greatest joy was his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Orwig; children, Joseph (Peggy) Orwig, Jr., Mary (Michael) Passino, and David Orwig; grandchildren, Joe III, Tammy, Jeffrey, Julia, Kristin, Andrew, and Billy; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Cecil Orwig; and sister, Marion Mennitt. Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH on Thursday, March 10 from 4 - 7PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 11 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Fish Cemetery.
