Joseph R. Malek, Sr., 80, of Sylvania, died August 14, 2018 at St. Annes Hospital. He was born June 18, 1938 in Chicago to the late Frank and Stella (Spiewak) Malek. Joe married his surviving wife, Jacqueline A. McCorkle, in 1957 in Chicago. Also surviving are his sons, Joe Jr. (Jenny), Jeff and Jerry (Amy) Malek; grandchildren, Ben, Nathan and Macey; and special family friend, Bill Swanson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob. Hard working and self-made, Joe retired in 1993 as a mechanical supervisor from DuPont after more than 30 years of employment. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Sylvania, enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his sons and grandchildren. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Joe was very handy, able to fix almost anything himself and will be remembered as a good husband, father and grandfather. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where a scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Joes funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5373 Main St., Sylvania. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Church or the Kidney Foundation. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at U.S. Renal Care in Sylvania.
