Joseph John Lach, age 92, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017, in Holland, Ohio. He was born to Joseph and Alice (Gresh) Lach in Gary, Indiana, November 4, 1924. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School (now Bishop Noll Institute) in Hammond, Indiana. During WWII and following completion of Aircrew School at Arkansas State College, he served in the United States Army Air Corps. He put himself through college, attending first Gary City College, and then completing the four year curriculum at DePaul University in Chicago, majoring in Accounting and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. Also following the war, he played baseball with the Chicago White Sox minor league team, the Madisonville Miners, and with a Chicago Cubs minor league affiliate, the Fayetteville Cubs. Prior to moving to Florida in 1969, he was the owner-operator of three funeral homes in Lake County, Indiana. He retired to Sebring, Florida in 1989 having owned and operated several motels in Ft. Pierce. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Sebring and was an avid golfer, skier, fisherman, and amateur artist. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward. He is survived by his son, Dr. Joseph Lach of Holland, Ohio and three daughters – Linda Susan Lach of Niagara, Wisconsin, Barbara Anne Lach, of Holland, Ohio, and Mary Kathleen Lach of Decatur, Georgia; five grandchildren – Dr. Joseph M. Lach of Richton Park, Illinois, Dr. Michael Lach of Cleveland, Ohio, Kristin Lach-Naselli of Richlands, North Carolina, and Daniel John Lach and Katherine Ann Lach of Holland, Ohio; two great-grandchildren – Noah Michael Naselli and Grace Katherine Naselli of Richlands, North Carolina. A brief visitation was held at Walker Funeral Home, Sylvania, on Saturday, March 11, 2017, followed by Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Toledo, celebrated by Assistant Pastor, Reverend Francis Mariadas, SAC, Parochial Vicar. Interment is planned for Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of gifts, contributions by friends to their favorite charity in our father’s name are very much appreciated.
