Joseph Raymond Karmel

February 9, 1942 — April 21, 2012

Joseph R. Karmel, age 70, passed away Saturday April 21, 2012 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. The son of George and Vera Karmel, he was born Feb. 9, 1942 in Toledo. Joe served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked as an electrical inspector for the City of Toledo retiring in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post 132, International Association of Electrical Inspectors, the Zenobia Shrine where he served on the Directors Staff, 33rd degree Mason, member of the Fort Industry Masonic Lodge, the O-Ton-Ta-La Grotto and Lucas County Memorial Lodge. Joe loved cats, was an avid flea market shopper, loved to woodwork as well as doing electrical work on the side. He had a great sense of humor and frequently could be heard telling a joke. Joe was always willing to give those he loved a hard time just to keep them on their toes. He will be missed by his loving wife, Julia Larick; son, Mark Melanie Karmel of IN; daughter, Julie Lee Campbell of IN; grandchildren, Madeline and Marisol Karmel, Marissa and Maya Mayberry; sisters, Carol Chuck Fleitz, Barb Foust; brother, Leo Judy Yager; mother-in-law, Geneva Larick of Tiffin; sisters-in-law, Kathy Paul Lautenschlegar, Barbara Gary Smith, Diana Carl Kuhn; brother-in-law, Christopher Sally Larick; many nieces and nephews; and his feline companion, Duke. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Marion Dale Larick. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 2-9 PM at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd where services will be held on Wed. at 11:00 AM. There will be a Masonic service held at 7:30 pm Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation of NWO 3100 W. Central Ave Ste. 250 Toledo, OH 43606 or the American Diabetes Association 30200 Telegraph Rd Suite 105 Bingham Farms, MI 48025.
