Joseph "Joe" Hanthorn, 84, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, and his beloved wife, Jeannette "Nettie" Hanthorn, 84, passed away just two days later on August 19, 2026. Together for more than 66 years, Joe and Jeannette were high school sweethearts whose love, devotion, and life together remained at the heart of their family.
Joe was born December 30, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, to Russell and Emma (Banney) Hanthorn. Jeannette was born July 12, 1942, in Oak Harbor, Ohio, to Edgar and Irene (Ravis) Dewitz. The two graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1960 and married shortly afterward on July 15, 1960, in Oak Harbor.
Joe devoted 30 years of his working life to Chrysler Automotive Company. A quiet and humble man, Joe found his greatest happiness in the simple comforts of home and family. He enjoyed woodworking, tending to his vegetable garden, and watching westerns. A devoted Cleveland Browns fan, he also cherished a good home-cooked meal shared with his family. Joe loved his children and grandchildren dearly, and family time was an important part of his everyday life. More than anything, he loved being at home with his wife.
Jeannette was a loving homemaker who dedicated herself to her family and home. She also worked for a time as a bank teller for National Bank of Oak Harbor in Curtice. Jeannette enjoyed cooking, sewing, cleaning, reading, and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elmore, she gave generously of her time and talents, including crafting quilts with her church group for people in need. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending bluegrass festivals with Joe, and gathering with family whenever possible. Like Joe, Jeannette was happiest at home, surrounded by the people she loved.
Joe and Jeannette are survived by their son, David (Rhonda) Hanthorn; grandchildren, Joshua Hanthorn, Shelby Hanthorn, Michael (Kassidie) Hanthorn, and Blake Hanthorn; and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Hanthorn.
Joe is also survived by his siblings, Letta (Calvin) Anderson, Art (Dorothy) Hanthorn, Jack Hanthorn, Russell Hanthorn, and Betty (Loren) Schiller. Jeannette is survived by her siblings, Dennis (Karen) Dewitz, Charlene (Frank) Patz, Sharon (Don) Brown, Ruth (Richard) Frazier, Rita (Fred) Leach, and Ann (Don) Bixler.
They were preceded in death by their parents; their children, Becky Hanthorn and James Hanthorn; Joe's siblings, Imogene (Elroy) Genzman and Robert (Ruby) Hanthorn; and Jeannette's sister, Joan (Ralph) Layman.
Joe and Jeannette's story was one of enduring love. From high school sweethearts to husband and wife, they built a life centered on family, home, faith, and the everyday moments that become treasured memories. Their passing just two days apart is a final reflection of the extraordinary bond they shared throughout their lives. They will be deeply missed by their family, friends, and all who knew and loved them.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West Street, Genoa, Ohio. A funeral ceremony celebrating the lives of Joe and Jeannette will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Grace Lutheran Church in Elmore.
Joe and Jeannette spent their lives side by side. They leave behind a family shaped by their love, countless memories of a warm and welcoming home, and a legacy of devotion that will continue through the generations.
