Joseph Hartigan Fenton FENTON Joseph Hartigan Joseph Hartigan Fenton, 65, retired regional traffic engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation and dedicated golfer, died December 27, 2008, at his home. Joe will be missed by his family and many friends for his good humor and laughter. Born in Batavia, New York in 1943 to Mary and Tom Fenton, the family moved to Toledo when he was a teenager. A graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School, he attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in civil engineering. For 30 years he worked for ODOT, retiring 12 years ago. While at ODOT he was in charge of analyzing the traffic needs of District 2, which encompasses eight counties in northwest Ohio and is headquartered in Bowling Green. Joe was an expert in signage, ramps, signals and the intricate analysis that goes into the study of traffic flows. Golf was an abiding passion of Joes and he retired early, in part, so he could devote more time to it. He was a charter member of Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green where he has a home on the 10th hole and recently, he bought a home in Hilton Head, SC, on the 8th hole. Joe was married for 38 years to Georgette Grosschedl who died four years ago. In 2007 he moved to Sylvania Township when he married Angelica Liauw. He was a member of Corpus Christi University Parish, where he was a Eucharistic minister and a past member of St. Rose Parish in Perrysburg and St. Aloysius Parish in Bowling Green. At St. Rose he was active in parish retreats. Joe is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Tom. Surviving are his wife, Lica; sister, Sue West; his Westie, Molly; a niece, five nephews, and many grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 Friday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue west of Corey Rd.. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi Church, 2955 Dorr St., Toledo, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of the donors choice.
