Joseph Cipolla, age 71, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Bay Park Hospital. Joe was born on March 10, 1945, in Ceccano, Italy. He immigrated to the United States in January of 1956 with his parents and older sister. A lifelong East-Sider, Joe graduated from Waite High School in 1964. He entered the United States Army in August of 1965, where he served in the Medical Corp until August of 1967. Upon his return home, he was employed by Standard Oil (now British Petroleum), where he worked for 38 years until his retirement in 2010. Joe was a member of the VFW Post #4906 and the Alba Club. He was a diehard Norte Dame Fan (Go Irish!), and proud of his Italian heritage. Joe loved fishing, golfing and watching old westerns. In his younger days he was very active and enjoyed all sports. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as a good card game with the guys, while watching the sports games on T.V. and always raising his glass to “Salute”. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Luigi and Teresa (D’Emilio) Cipolla, in-laws, William and Mary Ann Szirotnyak, and brother-in-law, Anthony Arite. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Carol (Szirotnyak) Cipolla, whom he married on June 9, 1978, as well as their two children, Joseph Cipolla II and Dr. Gina Cipolla (David Canella). He is also survived by his sister, Rita (Cipolla) Arite, and many nieces and nephews who loved him. In his life, Joe’s proudest achievement was his family, especially his two children, whom he loved dearly. He took great pride in all of their accomplishments and loved sharing this with others.
