Joseph Richard Bublick, 69, of Waterville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 17, 2023. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 30, 1954, to Richard J. and Gloria J. (Marshall) Bublick. Joe was a 1972 graduate of Woodward High School and was recently inducted into their Hall of Fame for involvement in, and dedication to, his community. After attending trade school, Joe began his general contracting career, eventually leading him to start his own business, Bublick Construction Inc., in 1989. He was a three-time Life Member of the Toledo Chamber of Commerce and three-time President of PRO (formerly THRA). Over the years he had been active with many organizations including the Business Owner Management Association, the Rotary Club of Waterville, Old Newsboys, Elks Club, Kiwanis Club, HBA Remodelers Council, and he was also a Zoning Inspector for Waterville Township. He was heavily involved with the Zenobia Shrine and was Worshipful Master for the Rubicon Masonic Lodge in 2001 and Potentate for Zenobia Shrine in 2015, or ‘Grand Poobah’ as his kids called it. He sat on many boards and committees including AWHS Fullbackers Association, the Toledo Air Show, Assistant Dogs of America, National Management Association, Toledo Area Metroparks, Toledo Home & Garden Show, Habitat for Humanity, Toledo Area Small Business Association and City of Toledo Board of Control, to name a few. Joe was memorable for his networking skills and generosity, and he fostered many loyal relationships, and most often friendships, all throughout his career.
Joe was affectionately known to his grandchildren as ‘Papa Bear’. He was larger than life, hardworking, devoted to his family, kind-hearted, sensitive, and sometimes stubborn but always there for those who needed him. He had an infectious laugh which often made up for his bad jokes. In the days when his body was kinder to him, he loved riding his motorcycles and also enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing with family who were friends and friends who were family. Most recently he enjoyed the company of his Friday lunch group, The Turtles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Richard J. and Gloria J. Bublick; sister, Judith Czaja; brothers, Richard Bublick, Mark E. Bowlick, Victor Bowlick; stepsister, Sandy Henniger.
Joe is survived by his children, Shannon (Jeff) Jacobs, Kristal (Todd) Helfman, Joseph (Amy) Bublick; grandchildren, Ellis Meyer, Ray, Max & Cole Helfman, Joseph, Benjamin & Augustus Bublick, Jacob & Kendall Walter; siblings, Jimmy (Carol) Bublick, Jeff (Annette) Bowlick, Jan Swiczkowski; sister-in-law, Lucille Bowlick; his faithful cat, Gilley, as well as many dear relatives and lifelong friends.
Lastly, he is survived by his ‘bride’ of 51 years, his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, his Happily Ever After, Wanda Bublick.
