Joseph Thomas Ankenbrandt

Joseph Thomas Ankenbrandt, 79, of Maumee, Ohio died Tuesday April 17, 2012 at his residence. Joe was born on June 5, 1932 in Maumee to Joseph W. and Nellie Jane Mackey Ankenbrandt. On September 17, 1955 in Perrysburg, Ohio he married Dorothy Scott. Joe was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee, a lifetime member of the Maumee Elks, a charter member of the F.O.P. 118, as well as a member of the Exchange Club where he was a Past President, The Old Newsboys, and Cub Master for Cub Scout Pack 32. Joe volunteered his time also at St Lukes Hospital in Maumee, where he helped start an organization for the prevention of child abuse. Joe was a dedicated member of the Maumee Police Department for 30 years, where he served in various positions from Patrolman to Police Administrator. He was the City of Maumees first Juvenile Officer and also worked as a bailiff in the Maumee Courts for over 20 years. Among all his jobs, Joe also worked 19 years for Brookside Construction. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and just talking to everybody. Most of all Joe was a family man, and will be greatly missed by his entire family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy; sons, Mark Cheryl, John Terry, Paul, and Gary; grandchildren, Jamie Anthony Tscherne, Joel Pam, Justin Shayla, Collin, Sarah, Emily, Daniel, Noah, and Rachel; great grandchildren, Allison, Porter, and another one on the way. He was the oldest of 14 siblings and had many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. The family would like to thank everybody who has helped them in their time of need, especially Senior Independence Hospice. Visitation for Joe will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 1:00-9:00 p.m. in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee, Ohio where a Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Maumee Elks service at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee, Ohio with prayers beginning at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Interment will take place in Ft.
