Jose B. “Joe” Olalde, 87, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on March 21, 1930 in Mathis, TX, the son of Gonzalo and Maria (Hilary) Olalde. On June 09, 1956 in Wauseon, OH, he married the love of his life, Hope Cortez and she preceded him in death on October 20, 2015. Joe was a supervisor in the wool department for the U.S. Gypsum Co. for 43 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Joe was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, OH. He was a very kind, loving and generous person to all who knew him, who always had a smile anytime you saw him. He loved working in his yard, was quite the handyman and he enjoyed playing his guitar. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Those left to cherish his memory are: Daughters: Elma Olalde and Annette Olalde, both of Port Clinton; Sons: Joe A. (Lisa) Olalde of Dayton and John (Patty) Olalde of Las Vegas; Grandchildren: Lacy, Lindsey, Joshua Olalde, Samantha (Vern) Horst and Ashley (Allen) Miller; Great-Grandchildren: Corie Horst, Jase & Joseph Miller. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Hope. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2017 at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, OH. Funeral service will be conducted by Father John Missler at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Christy Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations in memory of Joe be given to the family or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison St., Port Clinton, OH 43452.
