Jon K. Vertz

Jon K. Vertz, age 51, of Walbridge, Ohio passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Hopsice of Northwest Ohio. Jon was born on March 23, 1965 to Pastor Karl J. and Carolyn J. (Tews) Vertz in Allegan, Michigan. Jon married the love of his life, Peggy (Murray) Vertz on December 28, 2001 and she survives. Jon was a truck driver and car hauler with MPG/United Road for 27 years. Jon was loved by many. He was a “regular guy” who loved his family and his extended family very much. He also loved his dogs, Henry and Brutus. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Toledo. Jon is survived by his loving wife Peggy, his parents, Karl and Carolyn Vertz, his stepchildren, Jamie and Angie; grandchildren, Tyler, Derek, Ethan, Alyassa, Sophia and Leland; his mother-in-law, Barbara Murray; brother, Todd (Beth) Vertz; sisters, Tricia (Matt) Affholter, Joy (Matt) Huber; cousin, Rick Cunningham; in-laws, Deb (Larry) Gugle, Ronnie (Sherri) Murray, Emerson (Nana) Murray and Colleen (Tom) Miller. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents, and father-in-law Ron Murray. Friends will be received at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St., Walbridge, Ohio (419-666-3121) on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 2:00-8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 4:00-5:00 pm. at Zion Lutheran Church, 3360 Nebraska Ave. Toledo, Ohio 43607 with funeral services immediately following at 5:00 pm. Pastor Steven Schmeling will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Zion Lutheran Church. The family would like to give special thanks to Matt Affholter, “Uncle BH”, for the loving care he helped to provide to Jon.
