John Rhoades Youngen

John R. Youngen, 51, of Maumee, Ohio passed away August 9, 2017 surrounded by family and friends after a courageous struggle with cancer. He was born on May 13, 1966 in Toledo. He married the love of his life and best friend Annie (Kovar). After graduating from Ottawa Hills High School, John attended Indiana University and the University of Toledo. After college, he moved to the beautiful town of Harbor Springs, Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan where he worked as a manager for Bluff Gardens. John was never far away from the lake where he enjoyed boating and was an avid water skier. In 1996, he moved back to the Toledo area and starting working as an office manager with Westmeyer Dental. John’s selflessness was a life-long attribute that no one will ever forget. The needs of others always came first whether with friends, relatives, or co-workers. John loved his annual visits to Maine spending time on the lake with his nieces and nephews. He always enjoyed the lively outings with his cousins and their children. Near and dear to John was his close friendships with Dennis Isabell and Andy Westmeyer. John is survived by his father Dr. Robert Youngen; his sister, Kathy Youngen; his brothers, Jeff Youngen, Chris (Denise) Youngen, and Doug (Lynn) Youngen; his stepdaughters, Melaina and Kyra Behnfeldt; his stepsons, Reed and Brice Behnfeldt; along with his five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Jean (Weed) Youngen. Friends may visit the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 West Sylvania Ave. Toledo, on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be a private burial followed by a Memorial Service in celebration of John’s life at St. Michael’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4718 Brittany Rd., Toledo at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017.
