John Robert Bob Yoder passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2015 with his family at his side. Bob was born March 18, 1927 in Kirksville, Missouri to Odula and Forrest Yoder. He entered the Navy immediately after high school and served for one year before entering Johns Hopkins University where he graduated pre-med in 1950. Bob graduated with a medical degree from the University of Rochester in New York before attending The Ohio State University to serve his internship where he met the love of his life, Joann in October of 1954. Bob and Joann were married January 29, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio and have cherished over 60 years of marriage. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Michigan where Bob began his residency and specialization in Radiology. In 1958 he accepted a position in Toledo, Ohio where he joined the Toledo Radiology Associates (TRA) at the Toledo Hospital where he served as head of the department for 22 years. Bob was also President of the Eastern Radiology Associates (ERA). He continued his practice and his dedication to the profession until his retirement in 1998. Both Bob and Joann were avid golfers and joined the Inverness Club in 1959. In 1977, Bob became Greens Chairman where he served until 2000. He received Greens Chairman Emeritus in that time. He was also President of Inverness Club from 1980 to 1981. In addition, he was known by many for his involvement with the 1986 and 1993 PGA Championships as well as the 2003 and 2011 U.S Senior Open Championships. In 1979 he planted the infamous Hinkle Tree during the night of the U.S Open. He had a love for flying and achieved his first solo flight in 1971 and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association when he built a Steen Skybolt, an aerobatic two-seater bi-plane in the basement of their home. Bob, with his wife Joann were also members of Epworth United Methodist Church. Through the years, they both continued their love of golf, friends and warm weather, and moved to Harbour Ridge in Palm City, Florida, but Toledo also remained their home. Both homes were a special place loved by the entire family and were frequently visited by the couples children and grandchildren. A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Bob is survived by his wife, Joann; children, Douglas (Vickie) Yoder, Brian (Beth) Yoder, Bruce Yoder, Jeanne (Gary) Zaciewski, Jan (Jim) Schwarzkopf; sister, Alice Marotz; grandchildren, Jason, Ben, Nicolle (Jeremy), Justin, Lauren, Olivia, Brittney, Michael, Sara, Collin, Hannah, Bob, Brian, and Meredith; and great grandchildren, Brody, Brandon, and Connor. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bob Marotz. A special thank you and acknowledgement go to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and to Visiting Angels Home Living Assistance. The family is forever grateful to their special Angels, Erica, Estrella (Star), Crystal (Crys), Katie, Sylvia, Sherry, Christina, Cindy, Jill, Maris and Krissy for their dedicated care and support. Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) on Monday, December 21, 2015 from 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11:00AM at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 W Central Ave, Toledo, OH 43615, followed by interment at Toledo Memorial Park.
