John H. Wood

John H. Wood, 89, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Ohio Veteran’s Home, Sandusky, OH. John was born on March 04, 1926 in Deadwood, SD, the son of James L. and Elise (Bessant) Wood. He was married at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, OH, to Matilda L. Peto and she preceded him in death in August 1989. John worked as a laborer, retiring in 1994 from Standard Products. A retired Army veteran, John served his country from 1944 to 1964. John was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. He was a rancher in South Dakota, where he joined the military. John was always working and busy with his farming and the horse stables at the farm. He loved farming, raising his grandkids and being with his family. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: Daughter-in-Law: Kay Wood; Son: Andy Gregorsok; Granddaughter: Nicole Wood; Grandsons: Andy III, Bob, Ron and Jeff Gregorsok; several Great-Grandchildren; Brother: Donald Wood and Sisters: Mabel and Sue. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 3 sons: Greg Wood, Brad Wood and Ron Gregorsok. Visitation will be 10:00am to 12:00pm, Saturday, June 27, 2015, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00 (noon), conducted by Rev. Dr. Kurt Borows Jr. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery, with military honors. Memorial donations in memory of John may be given to the Veteran’s Association.
