John C Weissenberger

John C. Weissenberger, 70, of Walbridge, passed away December 20, 2014. John was born June 28, 1944 to Elizabeth (Nofzinger) and Charles Weissenberger in Toledo, Ohio. He was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School and married Edna (Rogowski) on May 1, 1965 at Good Shepherd Church in Toledo, enjoying 49 blessed years together. He retired from BP Refinery as a heavy equipment operator in 2010 after 41 years. John was active as a child in both baseball and hockey and went on to be a beloved Walbridge Baseball and TOYHA Hockey coach. He was an avid Indy 500 fan, spending all of the month of each May attending events surrounding Indy racing; he loved to golf and was a huge Notre Dame Football fan. He loved all sports and was a great Detroit Red Wings, Tigers and Lion fan. John was also a strong Union man at BP. His greatest achievement was raising his grandsons and being a wonderful father figure. He will be sadly missed by his beloved dogs Liam and Jenny. John is survived by his loving wife, Edna ; daughter, Kristin Oneail; son, Joe Weissenberger; grandchildren, Brandon and Shawn Oneail and sister, Ann Slaughterbeck. John was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Weissenberger and beloved in- laws, Edna and Joseph Rogowski. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio 43465 (419)-666-3121 with Scripture Services at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner St. Walbridge, Ohio with prayers conducted in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at Toledo Memorial Park. The family would like to give special thanks to the Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit, Oregon Clinic and Dr. Riaz Chaudhary, Tracy Dippman, his home hospice nurse, close friends Chesley and Nancy Shrewsberry, Terry and Jeanie Jessee and Gus and Charlotte Costanzo. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Jerome Catholic Church.
