John A. Weidner, 72, of Elmore, died in his home, Sunday March 25, 2018. He was born July 21, 1945, in Genoa, Ohio, to Arthur E. and Iva E. (Gregg) Weidner. On February 27, 1967, in Graytown, Ohio, he married Diane L. Schroeder and she survives. John served from 1962-66 in the Navy on the USS Joseph Strauss during the Vietnam War. He later graduated from Terra Tech in law enforcement and for 30 years served as a deputy sheriff for Ottawa County retiring in 2000. Johns hobbies included working on and restoring cars, asparagus hunting, going for daily drives, traveling to Colorado and especially spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Diane, John is survived by his children, Angela (Bob) Abt, Jon (Nicole) Weidner and Krista (B.C.) Culbertson; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Taylor, Halie, Kaylin, Noah, Makyah, Bobby and Troy; siblings, Lois Kay (Carl) Rice, Linda (Dick) Potts and Terry (Brenda) Weidner. Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter, Renae Weidner Okonski, and sister, Nancy Anthony. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 29, 2018, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Graytown. Burial will follow in Elliston Cemetery with the Ottawa County Sheriff Dept. providing cemetery honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials for John may be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1700 N. Walker St., Graytown, OH 43432; or Juvenile Diabetes Assoc., 3450 W. Central Ave. Suite 256, Toledo, OH 43606.
