John Blair Webster

John Blair Webster born to Dr. Frank Blair Webster and Charlotte (Lear) Webster in Cleveland, Ohio in 1933 died in his residence on October 28, 2015. Childhood and schooling through high school were spent in Bellefontaine, Ohio near grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins of a close extended family. Life in town, on farms and a homemade cottage at nearby Indian Lake made for happy times. Blair apprenticed outdoor pursuits with his grandfather and father before starting grade school, studying flora and fauna then fishing and hunting. He graduated from Bellefontaine High School in the class of 1951 (Chieftains). Moving on, he graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a BA in 1955, then an MD from Western Reserve University in 1959. In 1956 he met and married Lucy Jane Myers of Akron, Ohio and they remained devoted to one another through life. In 1960, he interned at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Blair then served about seven years in the United States Navy, earning Flight Surgeon wings in 1961, one duty assignment was at McMurdo Base in the Antarctic for 14 months, Operation Deepfreeze IV. Navy activities related to Nuclear Studies and included one year at the University of Rochester, New York, earning an MS in Radiobiology. Blair practiced Occupational Medicine in Maryland and Ohio, moving to Toledo in 1975. Blair is survived by his wife, Lucy; three children, Robert Blair (Roxanne) Webster, David Myers Webster and Meg Ann Webster (Paul) Noah; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Victoria and Meredith Webster and Sarah and Frank Noah. Blair enjoyed a full life pursuing many and varied adventures and through life maintained a deep reverence for the natural world, for the value of family and his forever sweetheart, Lucy. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday, November 27 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey).
