John R. Sotak, 68, of Port Clinton, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, December 16, 2024, at his sister's residence in Marblehead.
Born on December 10, 1956, in Port Clinton, Ohio, John was the son of the late John and Patricia (Macklin) Sotak. On August 21, 1998, he married Peggy Williams, who preceded him in death on January 8, 2022.
John was a proud United States Navy Veteran, dedicating 24 years of his life to serving his country before being injured and transitioning to disability. A lifelong animal lover, he enjoyed feeding wildlife, particularly squirrels and birds, and had a special bond with many dogs, cats, and even a turtle throughout his life. John was also an avid viewer of TV, especially modern history programs and shows like Ancient Aliens.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Ryan) Caldwell; step-children, Mike and Kathy Moncrief, Alabama, Becky and Ron Pronger, North Carolina, Tim and Lisa Moncrief, Christy Moncrief, Sam and Mindy Moncrief, Justin Moncrief; siblings, Mike Sotak, Mary Pat Bishoff, Joan Wadsworth, Joe (Kelly) Sotak, all of Marblehead, and David (Michelle) Sotak of Elmore, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and 1 great-great niece.
In accordance with John's wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held in the spring.
